UC Berkeley Housing contracts are for either the entire academic year or spring semester. Students who wish to cancel their housing contracts must submit a cancellation request in the housing portal. Cancellations that are not for approved reasons for cancellation (withdrawal, graduation, or study abroad) can only be approved if an eligible replacement is found to take over the contract. Please read about cancellation and appeals on our website.

During winter break, campus residence halls close and residents must leave the buildings. Martinez Commons and the apartment buildings will remain open. For those students moving out permanently at winter break, move-out instructions will be sent directly to you via email. See our website for more information about winter break closure.
-
Please see our Move-Out page for all dates and information about move-out.
-
Graduating seniors may be allowed to stay in housing depending on the date. You may need to relocate into a specified, centralized location. Late stay requests related to graduation should be brought to your unit-level front desk/ office with proof of graduation ceremony day/time.
-
Please follow the move-out responsibilities checklist. Following this will help reduce the chances of being charged for cleaning and/or damage. All rooms will be inspected by unit staff upon the last resident vacating and should look like they did when you moved in.
-
All students must vacate the residential facilities by the move-out date and time. All dates and information can be found on our Move-Out page. Failure to be out by this time may result in fines and conduct violations.
