Moving out of on-campus housing: Spring Semester

All students must vacate the residential facilities no later than Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Failure to be out by this time may result in fines and conduct violations.

Be sure to review your Move-Out Responsibilities. If you have any questions, please contact your housing Unit front desk or RA.

Move-Out and Commencement

We strongly recommend that you avoid moving out on the morning of Saturday, May 17, 2025 when the Campus Commencement ceremony will take place. Heavy traffic is expected, with parking lots opening at 7:00 a.m. to accommodate visitors excited to see their Golden Bears graduate.

Parking will be very limited between 5am and 2pm on Saturday.  If you have a parking permit (annual, monthly or daily), it will not be valid at central campus lots (such as Underhill, Foothill, etc.) between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on that day (nor will hourly parking be available). Learn more about parking on Commencement.

If you will be moving out on Saturday, May 17 and will be using a car, we suggest that you schedule your move for after 2:00 p.m. if possible.

Moving Out Early

If you are moving out during non-business hours, please obtain a Check–Out envelope from the Unit Office.

  • Fill out the requested information
  • Place your key(s) in the envelope, seal it, and put it in your unit’s Key Drop Box (or, for residents of Enclave and Panoramic Berkeley, place your key(s) in an envelope with your name, SID and room number, and slide it under the door of your building’s leasing office.)
  • Lock change and/or lost key charges may apply if all keys are not properly returned.

Graduating Students

Graduating seniors may be allowed to stay in housing depending on the date. You may need to relocate into a specified, centralized location. Late stay requests related to graduation should be brought to your unit-level front desk/ office with proof of graduation ceremony day/time.

Summer Sessions A/A&D Housing

Those currently living in housing and attending Summer Session A or A&D may be able to stay in housing post May 18 for a fee. You must be able to move into your summer space as soon as it’s ready to be eligible for this option.

If you are in need of either of the above accommodations, you must contact your Unit front desk by May 1, 2025, and provide proof of commencement or Summer Session attendance. Approval of extended housing must be obtained well in advance of Move-Out, and failure to do so may result in an unauthorized Late Vacate charge.

Keys and Room Inspections

All keys must be returned to your Unit office no later than 10 a.m. on May 18, 2025. Failure to return all keys issued to you will result in a charge for the locks to be changed, the cost varies by location.

Unit staff will inspect all rooms after the last resident vacates. Any damage, trash removal, and/or cleaning charges will be assessed back to the room residents. Please speak with your RA about any damage that you caused and need to be billed for. Otherwise charges will be split between roommates.

Recycle & Donate

As the end of the school year approaches, let’s work together to prevent thousands of pounds of waste from entering our landfills during the move out process. For students moving out and looking to dispose of their large furniture items: Avoid fines up to $1000 and keep our streets clean by donating your reusable goods to Cooperative Reuse. For more information on how to donate and recycle your items through move out, please visit the Cal Moveout website.
