Helen Diller Anchor House is so much more than student housing – it is designed to be a hub of connection and belonging for all of our transfer students at Berkeley. It also hosts multiple community spaces and resources for our Berkeley community (and the general public!) to enjoy.

Transfer Student Center at Anchor

UC Berkeley’s Transfer Student Center supports a successful transition for transfer students, fosters connections and a strong sense of community among transfers, and empowers transfer students as they explore and pursue their academic and career goals.

Transfer Student Center at Anchor, is the Transfer Center’s second physical location on campus located at the building’s 1923 Walnut Street entrance. It is open and available as a resource to all transfer students at UC Berkeley.

“The Landing” Storage Lockers

“The Landing” Storage Lockers

“The Landing” is intended to be a place where commuter students can drop off their belongings in-between classes and activities (without needing to leave campus). Storage lockers in the Landing are available for rental for commuting transfer students who do not currently have a housing agreement with UC Berkeley. Locker rentals also come with free access to Anchor House’s Oxford Hall, indoor bike storage, and community kitchen.

To rent a locker, please request an application by emailing anchorhouse@berkeley.edu.

Oxford Hall is UC Berkeley’s first commuter lounge, intended to be a place where students who travel to campus via public transit can stop by on their way to and from classes. The lounge offers light-filled spaces where students can gather or study. Oxford hall is located on the first floor of Anchor House at the main 1950 Oxford Street entrance.

It is currently open only to Anchor House residents, and is expected to open to all UC Berkeley students, staff, and faculty later this Fall 2024.

Berkeley Art Studio West

Berkeley Art Studio West is a brand new art studio located on the second level of Anchor House, accessed by the main 1950 Oxford Street entrance. Anyone can sign up for classes at the art studio, including members of the public and UC Berkeley students, staff, and faculty. Learn more, and sign up for classes at Berkeley Art Studio West.

Anchor House has several event spaces available for rental, including Anchor House’s outdoor courtyard, Sequoia Room, and rooftop venue. Anyone can rent out these spaces, including members of the public and UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff. Indoor Bicycle Storage

Anchor House offers secure indoor bicycle storage for Anchor House residents, and all students who have storage locker agreements. Eligible students should register their bikes at the Anchor House front desk, and will then be provided with instructions on how to access the storage spaces.

Anchor House has a fully equipped community kitchen called “The Pantry.” The includes a large communal table for meals, cookbooks, and an adjacent lounge with cozy seating and a library. The Pantry is available for use for Anchor House residents and all students who have storage locker agreements.

Teaching Kitchen

Anchor House includes a “Teaching Kitchen” that is designed to host academic culinary programming at UC Berkeley. Run by UC Berkeley’s Rausser College of Natural Resources and Nutritional Sciences Department, courses that take place in this kitchen include Personal Food Security and Wellness, NST 20, Foods, NST 208, and Food Systems Management, NST 235. Courses are available to UC Berkeley registered students only. The kitchen is also a space for DeCals, Clubs, and campus and community groups.

Anchor House is equipped with a 8,600 square foot indoor/outdoor fitness center and yoga studio. Currently the fitness center and yoga studio are available for use for Anchor House residents only.

“The Well” Residential Lobby

“The Well” is a lobby for Anchor House residents and their guests. The welcoming space has soaring ceilings and is bathed in natural sunlight from a lightwell in the ceiling that connects to the central courtyard above – making it ideal for studying or gathering with friends.
