- Maintain status as a full-time enrolled and registered student each term.
- Are in good financial standing with UC Berkeley Housing and the University of California.
- Have more than two semesters remaining in their program.
- Remain in good standing with the university.
Who is not eligible to renew?
Graduate students who are not eligible to renew are students who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Outstanding balance to UC Berkeley Housing and the University of California.
- Graduating in the spring or summer prior to the start of the next academic year.
- Withdrawn or dismissed from UC Berkeley.
Postdoctoral scholars and visiting scholars are not eligible to renew their room space as they are on a set housing agreement.
How do I renew?
The renewal process typically begins in mid-February and lasts for about a month. Students will be notified via email that the renewal process has begun. During this time, students can view the upcoming year’s rates, which go into effect on August 1 of each year. In addition to assistance via phone, email, and in person, virtual renewal workshops will be offered to answer any renewal process questions.
If you are interested in renewing, log in to the Housing Portal during the renewal period and complete the Single Students Apartment Application for the upcoming academic year. To apply, do the following:

- Enter your FERPA contact, if applicable.
