Graduate student housing offers are made on a rolling basis, depending on the availability of your selected preferences.
Timeline for graduate housing agreements: Most new housing agreements begin in mid-August and end on July 31 each year, with the option to renew your apartment for the next academic year. Students applying after August are still welcome to submit an application; however, full occupancy is common by that time, and availability may be limited.
Locations and priority for graduate student housing
General priority: The earliest applicants receive priority for graduate student housing. A housing offer is not guaranteed, and all applicants who do not receive an offer remain on a wait list. We do not reach out to every applicant along the way regarding status because the process of sending out offers and assessing spaces is constantly in flux.
Priority by location: Within graduate housing, there are four different single student apartment locations. Single graduate students in any field of study can apply to any of the apartment complexes, but certain cohorts receive priority at specific locations.
- Ida L. Jackson House Apartments – Certain fellowship recipients receive priority: ARCS, Berkeley, Berkeley Mellon, Chancellor’s, Cota Robles, NSF, Regent’s.
- Intersection Apartments – Optometry students receive first priority and Berkeley/Chancellor’s fellowship recipients second priority.
- Manville Apartments – First year Juris Doctorate Candidates receive priority.
- xučyun ruwway Apartments – Rausser College of Natural Resources students receive priority.
Be sure to accept your housing offer
You must accept your housing offer by the offer deadline to reserve your space in campus housing.
Your offer email will include a deadline to accept the offer. For graduate students, the deadline is typically seven days after you receive your offer. If you do not complete the steps to accept the offer by the deadline, the housing offer will be rescinded, and the offer will go out to the next person on the wait list. To place yourself back on the wait list, log back in to the Housing Portal and update your application status to Resubmitted.
